The Life Insurance Application Process


Purchasing life insurance is an important decision, whether you are protecting your business or family. Ultimately, it is a decision that requires a balance of insurance need vs. out of pocket costs. With more than 15 years in the life insurance industry, Midwest Life Brokerage has streamlined our process and can show you the best product to purchase for each individual situation.

Here are the simple steps to each life insurance application:

YOU HANDLE STEP 1) You're already here. Go back to the Consumer Home Page and provide your information on one of our two quote engines - "Cheapest Coverage (up to $50,000,000)" or "No Paramedical Exam Required (up to $300,000)".

It should take less than 5 minutes to complete either of these requests. Once fully completed, hit the submit button and your information will go right to our secured E-Mail quoting account. If you would rather give us this information by phone, please contact us at 630-428-7640.


WE HANDLE STEP 2) A Midwest Life Brokerage agent will cross reference your information against our 60 life insurance carriers.

We will take your information and reference it against our underwriting guidelines, allowing us to find you the best carrier from our partners. From there, we will run your best underwriting class information through our Term or Universal Life quote engine, allowing us to quote the lowest rate possible for your personal situation.


WE HANDLE STEP 3) We will communicate our findings with you, as well as send out the appropriate application package and life insurance quote via Electronic or US Mail.

Someone on our staff will contact you 24 hours later to make sure you've received our information, and if a face-to-face meeting is requested, we can setup that appointment immediately. If you are comfortable handling the application over the phone, we can take the application immediately and send the signature pages to you.


YOU HANDLE STEP 4 (if applicable)) If required, Paramedical testing will be scheduled.

A local Paramedical examiner will come to your home or office and conduct the required underwriting tests, per the insurance carrier. These tests are FREE of charge to you, and can be done at a place and time of your choosing. Saturday and Sunday appointments can also be made, if your schedule does not allow for weekday appointments.

48 hours prior to the tests, we would encourage eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, limiting your alcohol intake, and getting a GREAT night of sleep. These tests will help account for your life insurance premiums during the course of your policy -- we want you to pay the carrier as little as possible (and I don't think we're alone).


WE HANDLE STEP 5) Accumulate all of the underwriting information and package/submit to the insurance carrier.

For some death benefits & policies, an underwriter may require you to complete a phone interview. You'll need to handle that at your earliest opportunity. Also, doctor(s) records may be requested as a portion of your total package. We will work with your physician to obtain your records (again, FREE of charge to you) and submit to the carrier.


WE HANDLE STEP 6) Work with the insurance carrier to swiftly and aggressively underwrite your life insurance application.

The underwriting process generally takes between 3-6 weeks after your application is submitted. The most common delays are obtaining your physician's records, as well as incomplete answers on your insurance application. Prospects can help by answering every question on the application, as well as contacting their physician (if need be) to help speed the physician's staff along.

WE BOTH HANDLE STEP 7) We will obtain, check, and mail your life insurance policy directly to the Policy Owner.

If the policy is issued as applied, we will mail the policy to you immediately for placement. This package will include detailed information for you to complete and return, including any premium and signatures that remain outstanding.

If the policy is issued other than applied for, we will discuss the information with our TWO professional life insurance underwriters, and work hard to find you the best carrier/rate possible. It could be with the same carrier, or we may be able to pick up your file and move it to another life carrier, with limited paperwork from you.

All future premiums, after the initial premium payment, will be handled/sent directly to the corresponding insurance carrier.
